More Book Types
eLibrary Manager has primarily been designed to manage ePub books, with a built-in ePub reader for reading those books. With version 2.0.0, however, you can use eLibrary Manager to manage other eBook types as well, such as PDF books as an example. With non-ePub books loaded in your library, you can take full advantage of all the library management capability to view and organize book lists, and maintain book information.
Important note: Please be aware, however, that you will need to have external reader applications installed on your device to read non-ePub books. The built-in ePub Reader handles only ePub books, and the application does not include readers for other book types.
Loading Book Information
When loading ePub books into a library, eLibrary Manager extracts book information (or metadata) from the book files themselves. Although the application cannot extract book information from non-ePub books files, you can still load book information for such books using tools like calibre. If you manage your eBook library on your desktop computer with calibre, you can save book files to your devices with book information (metadata) and cover images saved as separate files alongside the book file. In this way, book information is captured in OPF and image files. eLibrary Manager uses such files, if any are found in the same location as the book files they represent, to load book information into your device book library.
Using externalized OPF and image files as a means of capturing and loading book information is available for both non-ePub and ePub books. See the screen captures below for a demonstration of how to generate and use such files to enable management of non-ePub books.
Allow Adding Other Book Types
By default, eLibrary Manager scan operations load only ePub book files into your library. To enable loading of other book types, go to the eLibrary Settings view. In the "More Book Types" section, you can add file extensions appropriate for any book type you would like to manage. Adding such file extensions in this view will allow the scan operation to find and load these book files, in addition to ePub books. You can find more details for setting this up at the link above.
Updating Book Information
In addition to loading book information through OPF and image files, as outlined above, you have the ability to maintain book information using the normal Book Information Editor and Book Info Lookup views.
Reading Non-ePub Books
As mentioned above, this application includes a reader for ePub books only. To read other book types that you've enabled the tool to manage, you must install appropriate reader applications for those specific book types. For example, you can use the Adobe Reader or PDF Reader applications to read PDF books. See the More Book Types setup page for more details on configuration for this feature, including managing MIME types when required.
